An attempt to obtain Bi_{4}Ti_{3}O_{12}-PVC textured ceramics-polymer composites

Bi_{4}Ti_{3}O_{12}-PVC composites were fabricated. Ceramics powders of bismuth titanate were prepared by the sol-gel method using bismuth nitrate pentahydrate Bi(NO_{3})_{3} \cdot 5H_{2}O and tetrabutyl titanate Ti(CH_{3}(CH_{2})_{3}O)_{4} as precursors. The Bi_{4}Ti_{3}O_{12}-PVC composites were fabricated from ceramics powders and polymer powders by hot-pressing method.Comment: 4 pages, 4 figure

Scanning Electron Microscopy of the Rainbow Trout (Salmo gairdneri Richardson) Spermatozoon

    Get PDF
The scanning electron microscope was used to determine the morphology of the rainbow trout (Salmo gairdneri Richardson) spermatozoon. The spermatozoon is approximately 32 μm long and consists of a head, mitochondrial collar, and flagellum. The head is elongated and somewhat flattened. It has an antero posterior length of 3.1 μm and a maximum diameter of 1.6 to 2.2 μm. Mean antero-posterior length of the mitochondrial collar is 0.8 μm The collar encircles the flagellum but is separated from it. The flagellum ranges in length from 26 to31 μm and is divided into a principal piece and end piece. Cytoplasmic vesicles commonly are found in the anterior region of the flagellu

New Developments in Gaming Taxation and Regulation: an Update

The gaming industry is facing increased regulatory interest. Congress has authorized a commission to investigate gaming in the United States. The Internal Revenue Service continues to interpret ambiguous areas of the tax code in an attempt to raise gaming tax revenues. Regulatory changes in currency transaction reporting have also resulted in some significant changes for the industry. The purpose of this paper is to provide an update on tax and regulatory issues currently facing the gaming industry. Specifically, the paper will address tax and regulatory developments in: (a) tip compliance, (b) cash transaction reporting, (c) complimentaries, (d) employee cafeterias, (e) outstanding chips and tokens, (e) marker discounts, and (f) high-denomination slot win reporting

On neutral pion electroproduction off deuterium

    Get PDF
Threshold neutral pion electroproduction on the deuteron is studied in the framework of baryon chiral perturbation theory at next-to-leading order in the chiral expansion. To this order in small momenta, the amplitude is finite and a sum of two- and three-body interactions with no undetermined parameters. We calculate the S-wave multipoles for threshold production and the deuteron S-wave cross section as a function of the photon virtuality. We also discuss the sensitivity to the elementary neutron amplitudes.Comment: 6 pp, revtex, 3 figs, corrected version, to appear in Phys. Rev.

Migrations of yellowfin and skipjack tuna in the Eastern Pacific Ocean as determined by tagging experiments, 1952-1964

ENGLISH: Totals of 59,547 tagged yellowfin and 90,412 tagged skipjack were released during 1952-1964 throughout the range of the fishery in the eastern Pacific Ocean during that period. Most of the fish were released from commercial baitboats, either on regular fishing trips or on chartered trips to catch fish for tagging. There we re 8,397 yellowfin and 4,381 skipjack returned from these releases. There appear to be two main groups of yellowfin in the eastern Pacific Ocean. There is considerable intermingling among the fish of the two groups, however. The fish of the northern group (west coast of Baja California, Gulf of California, and Revillagigedo Islands) first appear in the Revillagigedo Islands in about April, and migrate north along the Baja California coast during the spring and summer and south along that coast during the fall. Recruits to the southern group (Tres Marias Islands to northern Chile) appear at many points or continuously along most of the coast. The fish which first appear in the northern Panama Bight in April migrate rapidly northwest to Central America and Mexico and south to the Gulf of Guayaquil. There also appear to be two main groups of skipjack in the eastern Pacific Ocean. The fish of the northern group (west coast of Baja California, Gulf of California, and Revillagigedo Islands ) perform about the same migration as do the yellowfin of the same area, but most of the skipjack apparently then migrate to the central Pacific Ocean during the fall and/or winter. Recruits to the southern group (Central America to northern Chile) appear mostly in or near the Panama Bight. The fish which first appear in the northern Panama Bight in April migrate rapidly northwest to Central America and south to the Gulf of Guayaquil. The proportions which migrate in these directions vary considerably from year to year, this perhaps being dependent on differences in the sea-surface temperatures. Momentum Dependent Vertices σγγ\sigma \gamma \gamma, σργ\sigma \rho \gamma and σρρ\sigma \rho \rho : The NJL Scalar Hidden by Chiral Symmetry

We calculate the momentum dependence of three particle vertices σγγ\sigma \gamma \gamma, σργ\sigma \rho \gamma and σρρ\sigma \rho \rho in the context of a Nambu Jona Lasinio type model. We show how they influence the processes γγσππ\gamma \gamma \rightarrow \sigma \rightarrow \pi \pi, ργσ\rho \rightarrow \gamma \sigma and γγρρ\gamma \gamma \rightarrow \rho \rho and how chiral symmetry shadows the presence of the σ\sigma.Comment: 9 pages (latex), 5 figures available from the authors, preprint Coimbra 940506, IJS-TP-94/10, accepted for publication in Zeit. f. S-AMP for Non-linear Observation Models

    Get PDF
Recently we extended Approximate message passing (AMP) algorithm to be able to handle general invariant matrix ensembles. In this contribution we extend our S-AMP approach to non-linear observation models. We obtain generalized AMP (GAMP) algorithm as the special case when the measurement matrix has zero-mean iid Gaussian entries. Our derivation is based upon 1) deriving expectation propagation (EP) like algorithms from the stationary-points equations of the Gibbs free energy under first- and second-moment constraints and 2) applying additive free convolution in free probability theory to get low-complexity updates for the second moment quantities.Comment: 6 page

Renormalization-group analysis of the validity of staggered-fermion QCD with the fourth-root recipe

    Get PDF
I develop a renormalization-group blocking framework for lattice QCD with staggered fermions. Under plausible, and testable, assumptions, I then argue that the fourth-root recipe used in numerical simulations is valid in the continuum limit. The taste-symmetry violating terms, which give rise to non-local effects in the fourth-root theory when the lattice spacing is non-zero, vanish in the continuum limit. A key role is played by reweighted theories that are local and renormalizable on the one hand, and that approximate the fourth-root theory better and better as the continuum limit is approached on the other hand.Comment: Minor corrections.
